The Story: The Steelers had already changed to the new, rounded letters by the time I started collecting jerseys. One thing I always wanted was one of the black home jerseys with the old, block lettering style. There are a ton of throwbacks available, some better than others, but I always try to get an of-the-era original, as opposed to a throwback replica, when possible. The Steelers players of the 70's are out as authentics of that era just can't be found. After the 70's, the Steelers went into a bit of a lull, so there aren't too many players whose jerseys I'd want.
Enter Greg Lloyd. He was one of, if not the most feared linebacker of his day. He didn't just beat you. He beat you up. He wasn't the guy who celebrated and yelled and screamed like Kevin Greene did. He was a throwback to the previous generation of Steelers football. He (usually) quietly went about his business, but wasn't a guy who would jump at the opportunity to get in front of a camera. He was a soft-spoken guy who let his actions on the field speak for him, but when he did speak, he did so very well. However, when he says you need to take a pause, you better do it if you know what's good for you! A class guy and a fierce competitor, I'm proud to have a Lloyd jersey in my collection and to wear it proudly.
