The Story: So I feel the need to clarify the title of this page and the description of this jersey. This is a 2013 Reebok home game-worn jersey. This jersey is also customized with the "9 DUPUIS" on the back. However, this is not a Pascal Dupuis game-worn jersey. Confused? Let me 'splain it to you, Lucy!
I went to the Pittsburgh Hockey Expo, an annual event at the church located right next to the Consol Energy Center. My plan was to check out some of the old game-worn jerseys that I could only dream about getting and, if I was very fortunate, to find some kind of deal on an addition to my collection. Well, I found a deal! I got this jersey along with a Zach Sill team-issued jersey for $250. That's a pretty good deal!
This one came off the rack that held the Rookie Camp jerseys. Every year, the Penguins enter a team of prospects into a Rookie Tournament up in Toronto. They have both home and road jerseys for use in that tournament that are real NHL jerseys - the exact same Edge 2.0 jerseys with the exact same lettering as the Pens wear in the regular season. These jerseys are even tagged with special "Official Rookie Tournament Jersey" tags inside the rear hem and are authenticated by Dana Heinze. These jerseys sell online by J & J Distributing for $150, but I got an even better deal at the Expo. This jersey was worn by Nick D'Agostino in the 2013 Rookie Tournament. The jersey was number 9 and the nameplate read "D'AGOSTINO" when I bought it. I even have a letter of authenticity stating this. However, immediately upon leaving the Expo, I headed to Murrysville to the House o' Hockey, where I was able to get the nameplate switched out. They removed the original nameplate and replaced it with one reading, in authentic letters, "DUPUIS."
Pascal Dupuis was another one of those "heart and soul" guys on the team, but injuries and a problem with blood clots limited him in his last couple of years, with the blood clots ultimately requiring him to retire. However, he was one of the most versatile players on the Penguins roster, fulfilling both first-line wing and penalty kill duties while being part of the conscience in the locker room. He kept everyone, from his teammates to Root Sports commentator Dan Potash, relaxed and smiling being one of the team's pranksters and the best of Potash's many foils on the team.
About two years after I got this jersey, Pascal appeared at the 2017 Pittsburgh Hockey Expo, where I was able to get his autograph on this jersey, making it a true one-of-a-kind beauty! But his autographing it was a secondary priority that day. Like I've said numerous times, every jersey has a story!
