The Story: I looked and looked and looked, but I couldn't find any of the 2014 Stadium Series authentic jerseys available anywhere. The only thing I could find was the Reebok Premier replica. My goal has been to have an authentic of every Penguins jersey that comes into existence. Before this jersey, the newest authentic jersey that I don't have is the black CCM road jersey from the early-90's Stanley Cup years. Since authentics aren't available, I definitely wanted to get a replica, and I got it from the one place I knew could guarantee me that it would have the correct lettering, the House O' Hockey. They've done a bunch of jerseys for me and I've never been anything but satisfied. And par for the course, they did a fine job on this one, too, using an authentic lettering kit that they can special order. I've since found an outlet for the authentic Reebok Edge 2.0 version of this jersey, but I have a hard time spending upwards of $500 for a jersey that the Penguins only wore once and, given the lopsided nature of their loss in this game, probably never will again.
In addition to the authentic lettering, this jersey features a really cool-looking Stadium Series patch on the right shoulder along with what's called a "futuristic" design, which includes a shiny printed crest that's supposed to resemble a chrome finish (hate it!) and corners on the tail. The quality of the jersey itself really is a daylight-and-dark comparison to the Edge 2.0 jerseys. The Premier jersey is made of a very thin and easily-stretched material (like thinner versions of the Edge 1.0) while the Edge 2.0's are made of the very durable CCM AirKnit material that's been around for 25 years. The disparity between the two is similar to that of the old 80's and 90's CCM replicas versus that of the Ultrafil authentics. I'd never recommend a Premier replica jersey as I've seen Chinese knockoffs that seem to be of better quality.
