1992-93 CCM Road Replica
#25 Kevin Stevens with Alternate Captain's "A"
Manufacturer: CCM
Size: L
Purchased From: Penguins Pro Shop at South Hills Village
Lettered by: Penguins Pro Shop and NJK Lettering
The Story: After the Penguins won their second straight Stanley Cup in 1992, the team was flying high. The marketing geniuses in the front office decided to take advantage of all of the buzz around town by changing up the team's logo and jerseys. Also by this time, I had made the decision that I wanted each of the new jerseys, both home and away. So I headed back to the Penguins Pro Shop to get them. I bought two jerseys that day, but only one of them came home with me for reasons I'll explain on another page on this site. Also, once Stevens became a full-time alternate captain during the '92-'93 season, I had my new friend Norma at NJK Lettering add the "A" to the left shoulder.
This Stevens jersey served both my brother and me well - mainly me! I've worn it a lot over the years, at least until I...uhhh...outgrew it. But it was because of this jersey that I grew a lot as a jersey collector. Notice the difference in size between the Penguins logos on this jersey compared to those on an authentic jersey, like the ones pictured above. At this point, I never even knew there were two grades of jerseys. But I learned quickly, and I was off and running from there. After learning that I could get jerseys that were identical to those worn on the ice and that those jerseys were of much higher quality, I never purchased another replica jersey again, unless for whatever reason, I couldn't get my hands on an authentic.
