2016-17 Reebok Game Used Warmup
#24 Cameron Gaunce
Manufacturer: CCM
Size: 56
Purchased From: eBay
Lettered by: The Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins
The Story: The Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins are a nightmare for jersey collectors on a budget. In addition to the standard home and road jerseys, they have a number of specialty jerseys they wear throughout the season. They've worn alternate jerseys as well as special jerseys for Christmas and St. Patrick's Day. Over the years, they've also worn other sweaters to honor veterans, bring awareness to breast cancer, honor the police, and even commemorate Star Wars! And on top of all that, they wear a special set of jerseys exclusively for pre-game warmups. This is one of those jerseys.
Cameron Gaunce is a journeyman defenseman who has bounced around pro hockey, often getting called up to NHL teams for short stints while spending most of his time in the AHL. He's a good puck-mover who can effectively play the point on the power play, but he's just missing that little something that would keep him at the NHL level. He's a genuinely good guy, and he even won the Baby Pens' Man of the Year Award for starting a "Tickets for Teachers" program that supplied free tickets to local teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty in their jobs, even hand-delivering those tickets to the winners. He's moved on from the Penguins organization, but I wish him the very best in making and staying in the NHL.
I liked this jersey and chose to add it to my collection because it's the one and only jersey I own that doesn't have a crest on it. Instead, the WBS Penguins logo is dye-sublimated into the front of the jersey, and the crazy red eyes on the Penguin just seem to pierce you! Add some unique lettering and coloring to the jersey and you have something that can really catch the eye of the casual observer. There aren't a lot of these jerseys out there, which made it a perfect addition to my collection.
